How to trim a foot (and film it)
- Grind it clean [1]. Hold the left button and sweep. The grinder takes off manure and levels the claw. The outer hind claw usually stands higher and carries more weight.
- Read the sole. Spray [5] makes dark spots and lines show. A black dot in the white line (the bright seam between wall and sole) is your road map. The tester [3] shows where she's sore.
- Follow it with the knife [2]. Thin slices. Stop grinding at a dark spot. Behind it there may be pus, gas, a stone or a screw. Pliers [7] pull out what you find.
- How the knife works [2]. Every stroke cuts one piece of horn. Press where the blade should bite, draw the cut, and let go: that piece lifts out. A straight line cuts a strip (on caked manure it takes the crust right off and leaves a clean white band). A curve scoops, deepest in the middle. Draw a closed circle around a dark spot and a round disc comes out; go round twice for a deeper disc. Disc by disc you follow the dark line down to the pus. Always pull toward you, down the screen: a pushed stroke tears a thin, ragged piece. Cut across a loose flap and the whole flap comes away.
- Take off all the loose horn. Under-run horn sounds hollow under the thumb [4] and peels off with the knife. Remove it back to where the horn is attached.
- Don't cut live tissue. Pink horn is getting thin. Glossy pink-red is the corium. Red dots mean you're at the limit. Thumb test: firm is 6 mm or more.
- Toes and balance. Nippers [6] take the toe to 75-82 mm. Grind the higher claw down until both carry weight evenly.
- Block, powder, wrap. If the sore claw has raw tissue, glue a block [8] on the HEALTHY claw so the sore one floats. Powder [9] the raw spot and wrap [0] it.
- Film it. On the job the camera is always rolling. Big moments are saved as clips by themselves. Press T right after one to explain it to camera. Explained clips make full videos teach, and teaching is what earns subscribers and trust.
- Keep her calm. Hold the claw with the right mouse button or Shift when she's restless. Release her with Enter.
